DeepSeek R1 and OpenAI o3-mini now available in Windsurf

We have some exciting news: DeepSeek R1, DeepSeek V3, and OpenAI o3-mini are now available in Windsurf. We’re excited to continue to bring the latest cutting edge models to our users, as soon as they are available.

DeepSeek has been making waves with its powerful open-source models.

We implemented tool calling in R1 to enable it to work in Cascade. This makes Cascade the first coding agent to be able to leverage R1. Our DeepSeek models are fully hosted on Western servers. To start, DeepSeek R1 and V3 will be available to all Pro and Pro Ultimate users.

o3-mini

o3-mini is OpenAI’s latest reasoning model. It will be available to all Pro, Pro Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise users.

Model Specific Pricing

Along with this, we’re introducing model-specific pricing for Cascade credits. This will allow us to make closed-source models available as soon as possible and open-source models as accessible as possible.

Here’s how it works:

  • DeepSeek R1: 0.5x Cascade credits
  • DeepSeek V3: 0.25x Cascade credits (Free for Pro and Ultimate users as of 2/19/2025!)
  • o3-mini: 1x Cascade credits

If you’re a Pro or Pro Ultimate user, you can start using o3-mini, DeepSeek R1, and DeepSeek V3 immediately for code generation and reasoning. Teams and Enterprise users will also have access to OpenAI’s o3-mini.
