tl;dr Today we are rolling out our official Windsurf brand in its entirety, a visual reflection of how we want our users to feel while using the platform: LIMITLESS.
The Quick Background
The company has gone through a few iterations of naming as we’ve broadened our ambitions. Exafunction for GPU infrastructure, Codeium for AI-assisted coding, and now Windsurf, an AI platform that empowers anyone to turn their wildest ideas into reality. The name Windsurf reflects a fusion of human and machine that looks smooth, impressive, and effortless, all while being obvious that there is a massive amount of power and technique involved.
A couple of months ago, we decided to fully adopt the name Windsurf, along with an updated logo and wordmark. We didn’t want to wait to adopt the name.
However, in parallel, we have been at work developing a much more expansive visual identity that reflects our brand identity. What better day to launch the full brand than on the eve of International Surf Day?
Our Brand Identity
At the core, we want our brand to reflect how our users feel, not what our technology does. Our vision is a world where human brilliance is unleashed - where ideas take flight, breakthroughs accelerate, and the future is shaped without limits. “Dream bigger,” “enter flow state,” and other core messaging of our brand all tie into this purpose of amplifying ability and crushing creative blocks, so that anyone can make their moonshot a reality.
Everything we do with our innovative, category-leading technology is to power truly magical user experiences where work is faster, more creative, and higher quality. We facilitate flow states and unlock potential for knowledge workers by eliminating boring work, breaking blockers, and anticipating their next moves, so they can reinvent the limits of what’s possible.
This emotion can all be summed up in one word: limitless. Windsurf helps people shift gears — from stuck to flowing, from scattered to focused, from hesitant to ready. It’s about unlocking a more capable version of yourself, where creative momentum feels natural and within reach.
The Visual Brand
We knew the brand had to feel like Windsurf: joyful, intuitive, and in motion. Not just a new coat of paint, but a scalable system that embodies the emotional state we want to create for our users — that sense of momentum, and limitless possibility.
The wave-inspired form in our logo is more than just a shape — it’s a feeling. It echoes how ideas move when there’s no friction: fluid and forward. Our color palette draws from the natural world — open skies, moving water, golden light— striking a balance between vibrancy and calm. It’s designed to spark imagination without overwhelming.
Typography plays a similar role. Sharp, functional type provides clarity and confidence, while more expressive details and curves bring warmth and personality. It speaks to both sides of our user: the builder and the dreamer.
Motion stitches it all together—and the wave is central. More than a decorative element, it represents the flow state developers reach when using Windsurf. Throughout our digital and physical surfaces, you’ll see the wave animated in a natural rhythm, mirroring how our users experience their work. The wave captures our belief that building with AI should feel intuitive, fluid, and effortless.
Together, this system isn’t about showing off what we’ve built — it’s about reinforcing what’s possible when you build with it.
Designing AI’s Future
This brand is more than a facelift — it’s a signal. A signal that the next wave of AI products will center the user, not the tech. That the future isn’t just about raw power — it’s about resonance. It’s about designing experiences that feel intuitive and deeply aligned with how people think and create.
AI design is evolving from interfaces that explain what a model can do to ones that anticipate what you want to do. We’re moving away from sterile, over-engineered aesthetics and toward systems that feel organic, joyful, and alive. The best AI products will disappear into the background, surfacing just when you need them.
This is the shift we’re designing for — where intelligence feels embedded, not intrusive; where tools support your thinking without getting in the way. It’s not about showing off the tech, it’s about making space for what you want to create.
We’re just getting started. Here’s to building without limits.
