A month or so ago, Stack Overflow published the results of a pulse survey specifically on AI code assistants, and Codeium outranked everyone on productivity and satisfaction improvements:
That was a few thousand developers on just the narrow range of AI code assistants. Stack Overflow just published their 2024 Developer Survey results, so we can see what happens when we expand to tens of thousands of developers answering questions on the state of everything software development related.
And compared to where we were in last year’s survey, where only 1.25% of respondents used Codeium, and only 2.1% of respondents desired Codeium, we have come a long way:
- Almost 400% increase in usage to 6.1% of responders saying they use Codeium.
- Even combined with all AI tools, not just developer tools, Codeium is the fourth most admired AI tool, beating out the likes of Google Gemini, Claude, and Meta AI.
- Our 67.3% admired rating puts us closer to GitHub Copilot (72.1%) than any other generic AI code assistant competitor can say about their distance to us - Amazon Q (46.3%), Tabnine (36.1%), Cody (49.7%), or Replit Ghostwriter (36.1%).
- While the share of respondents stating they desired Codeium increased from 2.1% to 5.4% since 2023, the share decreased from 74.7% to just 41.4% for GitHub Copilot. We believe the gap will continue to close, and it seems like others are picking up on this too.
With thousands of reviews and a higher rating than any other major AI code assistant on IDE extension marketplaces, we already had confidence that we are building an experience that truly helps developers to achieve more than they could before.
